Artist's Statement
I first began painting in Tunisia where I studied painting and drawing at the Ecole des Beaux Arts for four years. I lived in the blue and white 13th century village of Sidi Bou Said where I was drawn by the strong contrasts of light and shadow typical of North Africa. I have always strived to capture the unique rhythm and essence of a subject whether it be a figure, still life, landscape or busy port.
During my three years in Mexico I found inspiration in the hot colours and extraordinary light. Later on, I lived in Villefranche-sur- Mer where I painted there and along the Ligurian coast of Italy. My most recent paintings were made in Spain and Provence.
At present I am working towards an exhibition in May 2009 at Gallery 54, in Shepherd's market.

Press comments
"Jean Harvey's paintings ... simply explode with colour, movement and joie de vivre. ... a 'fauves' palette but with a harmony all its own.... her paintings are full of charm, humour and tenderness."
